Our relationship with nature feels increasingly fraught, yet we live alongside it in our towns and cities without even acknowledging its existence, its resilience and our reliance upon it to sustain our lives.

I’ve always loved photographing trees, and whilst I began photographing trees in the ancient woodlands of Wales, studying their character and their form, as time went on, I began to notice trees more and more outside of their natural environment. They were every part as characterful, as impressive, yet the context had completely changed. Now, it was no longer about witnessing the beauty of nature, it was about noticing how we’ve built entire communities around these trees, how we’ve altered their landscape, yet they continue to remain strong - almost unfazed by the chaos that surrounds them.
